What is the difference between Pollak Pro™ and the other products?

What is the difference between Pollak Pro Secure LED™ and ProSecure Light™?

The main difference is that ProSecure LED™ features test lights to confirm your connection, while ProSecure Light™ glows red to highlight your connection. Additionally, ProSecure LED™ is also offered as a test light for both 4 Way Flat and 7 Way Blade applications.

Why am I blowing fuses on my vehicle? 

Inspect all wires for exposed copper or potential pinching. Determine the amp your trailer is drawing. Most vehicles are designed for standard trailer lighting only: one turn/brake signal on each side and one marker light on each front corner. For specific ratings, refer to your vehicle owner's manual. 

When I have my headlights on and apply the brakes, all the lights on my trailer go out. What causes this? 

You've got a ground issue. This means your vehicle's grounding isn't strong enough to handle all the lights properly. This is known as a weak ground. When you use both the taillights and brake lights simultaneously, it puts the most strain on the trailer lights. If there's a problem with the ground, it will likely pop up at this point. Here are tips on how to detect ground issues: 

1. Make sure the car's connector has a ground wire firmly attached to a clean surface on the frame. If the wire is connected to a rusty or undercoated surface on the body, it can damage the grounding. 

2. Make sure the wire from the trailer connector is securely attached to a clean surface on the trailer. 

3. Make sure the rear lights on the trailer work properly. Each tail light needs a good connection to the trailer frame to work. There are two ways to do this: use a wire to connect each light to the frame, or attach the light housing directly to the trailer frame using the tail light assembly’s bolts. If the lights are on wood or PVC, they won't work unless you connect them to the frame. 

4. Check the trailer design. If the trailer bed tilts, the ground might not be reaching the pivot spot, causing a weak connection. Fix it by running a ground wire from the front connector to each rear lamp, avoiding the tilting part. 

IMPORTANT: Don't think the trailer attached to your vehicle's ball hitch is ample ground. 

When I use one turn signal the other one blinks. What causes this? 

This issue might be caused by two things. First, there might be a short circuit somewhere in the system, so it's essential to check and test all the wiring and the vehicle connector. The second, and more common, problem is a weak ground in the system. Check the previous question for more guidance. 

When my trailer is connected to my vehicle, the turn signals are dim and flashing rapidly. What causes this? 

When you install trailer lights on your vehicle, the turn signal amp load doubles. Most vehicles have a flasher that makes the turn signal blink. The regular flasher in many vehicles can't contain the extra load. To fix this, use a heavy-duty flasher with 8 to 10 amps and make sure your car is running. The new flasher will slow down your turn signals, and having the engine on will make the lights brighter.

What is the difference between a vehicle wiring kit and a towed vehicle wiring kit?

Vehicle wiring kits are used to wire a car for towing a trailer while towed vehicle wiring kits help connect a car to be towed behind a motorhome. 

• Periodically put dielectric grease on all the electrical terminals to stop them from getting rusty and make sure they work. 
• When you're checking if the trailer lights are working, make sure the trailer is hooked to the vehicle hitch’s ball mount. 
• Before towing, make sure all the lights on the trailer are working. 
• Remember to check the emergency braking system’s battery level before you begin towing.
